A file relating to the controversy between Dr Edward Thomas O'Dwyer, Bishop of Limerick and Mungret College concerning the admission of lay boys to the College. The file contains manuscript material written by Fr Thomas Morrissey SJ. In a summary he remarks that the Bishop saw the presence of lay students at Mungret 'as a threat to his seminary' (nd, 1p). Includes correspondence, and prospectus for Mungret College, 1882, Annual reports of the Irish Apostolic School, Mungret, 1889 and 1895.

Document issued by the Inland Revenue stating the duty payable on a conveyance relating to Doyle’s yard. Accompanied by a type-written [draft] certificate stating that ‘the transaction hereby effected does not form part of a larger transaction…’

Accompanied by a draft/copy of a promissory note signed by Frs. Head and Gately, who promise to pay to Sharpel sum of £200 stg, with interest at the rate of five per cent per annum (12 September 1893, 1 page)

Documents on Jesuits' property rights in relation to the Crescent House. Handwritten notes regarding the position of the community in relation to Maunsell's house, in light of the fact that no rent had been paid since 1907. Includes a quoted opinion of Fr Masterson on the matter, and some extracts from legal documents in Latin.

Documents regarding the standard carried by the Munster Fusiliers, which bore an image of the Sacred Heart. Includes a handwritten note from Fr William Kane SJ to the Doyles 'concerning the appositeness of the Sacred Heart emblem on the standard made by Limerick women for Munster Fusiliers in the 1914-18 war."

A file containing Fr Brendan Barry's observations on the Lay School and Apostolic School, Mungret College. The notes include Fr Barry's concerns over the finances of the school. Fr Barry was superior of the Apostolic School from 1957 - 1959. The notes were compiled by Fr Redmnd F. Roche SJ who succeeded Fr Barry in 1959 and remained as Superior until 1967.

Typescript copies of Fr William Ronan's letters written prior to his fund-raising trip to America by Fr Thomas Morrissey SJ. Includes details of his fund-raising in Ireland and retreats given by him. Includes a page of quotations from the Mungret Annual.

Lined notebook, into which is glued typewritten sheets containing the 'Professio Fidei Tridentina' (Creed of Pope Pius VI) in Latin. Signed beneath in ink by members of the Sacred Heart community in January 1911. Also signed and dated by other members in later years (10- 1956). Insertion is a printed document containing the 'Professio Orthodoxae Fidei' and the 'Formula Iurisiurandi' (both in Latin also). Signed by Fr John Carr, and dated 7 May 1934.

Kept together in a ring-binder (discarded for preservation reasons), and divided alphabetically by subject with tabbed sheets of card. Subjects relate to Church, school and community matters. Many entries relate to the arrangement of liturgy and devotions, eg, Feast days, confessions, novenas, benediction etc. Some relate to the need for clarification on some point or other of canon law and other regulations in relation to powers and faculties, e.g., the proper date for the celebration of a feast, the transfer of faculties etc. Others relate to customs regarding the daily lives of community members, eg. the movements of priests, brothers and scholastics outside the house, talking at table, fast days, the consumption of wine etc. School-related subjects include boys' retreats, school dramas, property (including the football field), membership of groups such as sodalities, and the Apostleship of Prayer. Insertions include correspondence the Provincial, various bishops and others.

On the inside cover Fr Robert Tyndall SJ has written: 'Father Rector's reference book. May 1950 I began this as I could find no up-to-date journal or guidance book in the Rector's Room.' Many entries relate to arrangements made in relation to liturgy and devotions, eg, Feast days, confessions, novenas and benediction, and to ceremonies and timetables for special periods in the Church calendar, eg. Holy Week and Christmas . Some entries relate to the need for clarification on some point or other of canon law and other regulations in relation to powers and faculties. Others relate to the everyday running of the buildings, eg. electricity charges, fire precautions, organ tuning, staff wages etc. School-related subjects include school fees, boys' retreats, school dramas, sports, property (including the football field), membership of groups such as sodalities, and the Apostleship of Prayer. Other subjects of entries include visitations of the Provincial, villas, general finances of the church and school. Insertions include Lenten and novena leaflets, timetables, notices and correspondence.
