◆ Francis Finegan SJ Biographical Dictionary 1598-1773
He was born in Dublin, c September 1587, studied a short time at the Irish College, Lisbon, before he entered the Society in that city, 1605, and made his Noviceship at Évora. He studied Philosophy for four years at Coimbra, and by 1614 had done two years of Theology, and was then in poor health at the Irish College, Lisbon.

Conflicting entries in the catalogi of that year make it impossible to determine whether or not he was already a priest, and lacunae in the catalogi for succeeding years also make it impossible to assign the date of his death.

◆ Henry Foley - Records of the English province of The Society of Jesus Vol VII
BIRNE, ROBERT (Irish); entered the Society 1605. (Hogan's Ibernia, p. 429.)
