Remarks 'I have been told that in Ireland the Province has sometimes paid colleges where such men are placed a sum of £50 or £60 per annum for their support - I wish something of this kind could be done here by the mission.' Remarks that capable men are needed to take charge of the observatory '...Fr Pigot is doing his best to get away - to Japan I think - and in any case - though very capable - he is such a bundle of nerves - that he cannot deal properly with any assistant he engages to help him. In consequence of this and his own very indifferent health - the observatory work is hopelessly in arrears. Moreover for want of funds we have been unable to roof in properly the seismological tunnel...' (24 August 1911, 4pp). Includes a letter referring to a grant from the NSW government to Fr Pigot for the purchase of a new Russian seismograph. (5 September 1916, 1p).
