His father was Michael (Michael and Charles are very common names with the Barnewalls) and mother was Catherine née Buijs. Although it is not stated, it is assumed that his father was Irish.

Admitted to the Society by FLAN Provincial Maelcamp and sent to Mechelen for his noviceship.

BARNEWALL CHARLES FRANCIS, was son of Michael Bamewall and his wise Catherine Buijs, born at Antwerp, May 18, 1710; both parents living in 1728; studied his humanities at the College of the Society at Antwerp for six years, and philosophy in the College of Anchin, Douay, for one year; admitted to the Society by Father Maelcamp, Provincial of Belgium, September 10, 1728, and sent to Mechlin for his noviceship. (Machlix Album, vol. vii. p. 232.) His nationality is not stated. We presume his father to have been Irish.
