Judge O'Connor was at pains to point out the he was an "old boy" of the Crescent as well as Clongowes. He also gives details of his involvement as a barrister in a number of high profile cases.

Remarks 'Indeed I suspect the Editor of that paper wants to be returned to Parliament through ecclesiastical influence.' Refers to the National Petition. Remarks that he is very confident of the effect it will have. Continues 'I am still very strongly of opinion that the rejection of that Petition ought to be followed up, and that quick, with an address somewhat like what I sent you a draft of - and that the address ought to be- not to mankind in general, but to the Emperor of the French or to the French people.'
